Song of the Day: July 11, 2012
Futurisk, “Meteoright”
Presenting Futurisk, Southern Florida’s finest synth-punk band from 1982. Yes, you reflexively want to snicker at the hopeless dancing and Keytar solo but this song actually does a pretty amazing job melding a lot of the best music from that particular moment in time (DAF, Bowie, John Foxx, Bauhaus, Ultravox), especially in the pre-MIDI era. Of course nothing this great stays buried forever: James Murphy slipped the song into one of the DFA comps and has remixed another of their tracks, and the Minimal Wave analog synth revivalists have reissued the band’s sole LP, “Piano Player.” If I had caught this on Night Flight back in the day it would have totally rocked my world.
